Who, Why & What

Founded in 1981, Wai-Ora Trust was formed through the sacrifices of many people, most of whom lived on the margins of society, and all of whom were looking for a better way of life and who were willing to share what little they had to benefit those around them.

More than 40 years later, many of those individuals continue to contribute to the vision of Wai-Ora while others whom have moved into areas of influence in business, education, environmental protection and local government have remained loyal supporters.

Today, those involved in the Wai-Ora community, whether they be staff , volunteers or community members, remain passionate about keeping, and growing the Wai-Ora Vision to it’s full potential.

This is summed up in the inscription engraved in our training center which reads:

“Aroha ki te tangata aha koa ko wai” which translates to “Unconditional love for all people no mater who they are”.

Our Why

We exist to share the Gospel, to support the Restoration of people and the whenua, to Outreach to those in need and to create and support meaningful Work opportunities.

What we do – Part 1

Through the Trust, we provide a turangawaewae (a place to stand and belong)  which serves as a centre or community hub with activities and services which provide for the needs of those we serve.

What we do – Part 2

Through our Social Enterprise (Wai-Ora Group), we operate a sustainable for-profit company centered around all areas of  Environmental Restoration, where profits are distributed to assist the funding of the services and programmes operated by the Trust.
