Volunteering
Volunteering Opportunities
As a small team, working to make a big difference in our community we are so thankful to all the support we recieve from volunteers.
We have many tasks which often require skills which we are short of, so if you would like to offer to help on a voluntary basis, either regularly, or when we run a working bee, please let us know.
The areas we are often looking for help with are:
* Building repairs
* Painting
* Plumbing
* Pruning of our fruit trees
* Help packing food boxes
* Help cooking our weekly community lunches
* Regular weeding of our gardens
Community Works
Our Community Works programme offers a supportive working environment for volunteers.
Predominantly attended by volunteers who have found employment difficult to secure due to physical, mental, or intellectual barriers we offer a “work” style environment where people are cherished and encouraged.
The volunteer team is picked up from the city each day and “works” on various city council sites undertaking basic beautification and environmental duties.
Whether an individual comes to heal, be part of a team, build self esteem or just to meet other people they are valued for their input.
In return they will learn how to work in a team, learn interpersonal relationship skills, build their self-esteem, and enter a friendly, encouraging working environment.
While people attend on a voluntary basis, we may be able to seek a small travel allowance which is on top of their current MSD benefit.
Annual Orchard Pruning
Each winter we carry out a major pruning on our orchard and surrounding fruit trees. Its a large job with only a small team working on it.
If you know how to prune fruit trees, or would like to help, please get in touch with us. We usually prune from May through July each year.
Potting shed and Nursery
Seasonally there are often opportunities to volunteer within our social enterprise. From helping to pot seedlings through to weeding and re potting seedlings in the nursery, we often have tasks that we need support with.
